happy thanksmas!

me lovey and i decided to have our own kind of Thanksmas this year, to kick off the holiday season and to have a chance to celebrate a christmas for just the two of us (and the dogs). this combats the chaos of seeing two families over christmas vacation. it turned out really nice! i am the proud recipient of a good number of inking pens, a bunch of loopy japanese candy, some nice new boxers, and best of all: one of these. hot damn! works like a charm, too. i be sippin’ on a chilly dew straight from my office. no more of those unhealthy and exhausting trips downstairs.

in other news, doing a little customizing on the site and its bells and whistles. changed the css a little, made the posting area a little wider. wider, so that the WPG2 plugin (that’s the image viewer embedded in the blog) can work its magic and not look dopey. the gallery theme i have installed requires a bit more space left to right, so i had to widen the blog theme’s left-right space too.

xfce

my poor old pentium4 - 1.4Ghz with 256MB currently runs about 5 websites with yer standard mySQL/php/etc backend, and doubles as my browser and testbed when my main machine is preoccupied (read: i’m playing world of warcraft). poor thing is choking on swap, but SDRAM is fucking expensive and i’m not about to lay down $300 for the ram. not yet, anyway. so i found out about xfce this morning (thanks, StumbleUpon!). my machine is already happier, and in the process, i learned all the things i ever wanted to about xterm (i had gotten used to the fatness that is konsole).

holy crap, it’s been a while

not much to report. production on A Night at the Museum got really crazy, and the MAME project kind of ground to a halt for a while. the cabinet is in good working condition, people enjoy it, and it’s pretty much rock solid. a nice touch would be if i got up off my lazy ass and finished the marquee for it, and i keep meaning to. maybe i will tonight.

and, like so many other casual blogs, this one doesn’t get updated often enough. “i promise i’ll try harder” is my official campaign pledge. to me, really, because who else reads this thing besides me?

monitor still not working. no surprise there, eh?

maybe after today i’ll have more of a chance. museum’s been crazy. sorry. still holding onto hope that it’s something simple and not something that = new monitor. jeff may be able to get ahold of plans for a degaussing coil if necessary, but that’s for after we revive the monitor, if possible. again, i say wheee!
in other news, i’m now posting to the blog via email, and if i’ve done things properly, the posting mechanism should also post a copy of the email to the mamecab mailing list. wheee! there’s your bit of geekiness for the day.
the host has also moved, so the blog is now at http://fatblue.homelinux.org, but access attempts to http://tetujin.myftp.org should get redirected. hoorah for dynamic DNS updating and free redirect services.

edit: i’ve let tetujin.myftp.org expire.

anyway.
i’m out. laters.

sorry about the downtime on saturday. had to reboot the machine and i’d forgotten that i hadn’t set the proper scripts in rc3.d yet so that apache and mysql start automagically. should be fixed now!
